Introduction, Soft vs. Firm Limits
There are two different types of limits for behavior in the classroom. They can be soft limits or firm limits.
Soft limits are vague and unclear. Soft limits do not explain what needs to be done and do not include the consequences. Frequently when soft limits are used, they contain an emotional component.
Firm limits are stated directly and specifically. They focus on the behavior and choices involved. Firm limits clearly state the consequences and are delivered in a normal tone of voice.
In this module you will be able to identify situations in which soft and firm limits are used and practice your own responses to similar situations.
