Stand in between the victim and the bully
Set Ground rules; say "I need everyone to stand here quietly--no talking"
Turn to child who has been bullied (victim) and ask: "Are you alright?" Use a soothing, concerned voice.
Ask defender to stay with victim: "Why don't you stand next to (victim). Thank you."
