Effective Meeting Attributes

IDevice Icon Building Blocks for Effective Meetings

In an effective classroom meeting there is:

  • a physical environment that differs from the usual classroom setup, i.e., circular seating.
  • an introduction that includes compliments and appreciations
  • an agenda and everyone knows what it is.
  • a chance to practice good communication skills
  • toleration of differing perspectives and opinions
  • recognition of needs-based motivation
  • an opportunity to role play
  • focus on non-punitive actions

Script: "Before we begin, has everyone finished putting their chairs into a circle? . . . Good work. And let me say that the grades on the last math test have shown that this class has really been putting a lot of effort and work into their studies. Everyone scored above 75%! You all rock! Also, a big thank you to Jamie's mom for the fruit snacks that we have. I put the items for this meeting on the front board. Does anyone want to add an item? Raise your hand, please."
