Juvenile Corrections Officer (JCO) Pilot Training Curriculum

Overview of Project:

Under the coordination of the Global Issues Resource Center at Cuyahoga Community College, the Northeast Ohio Juvenile Detention Professional Development Project created a comprehensive pilot curriculum for entry level juvenile corrections staff. This 120 hour pilot curriculum attempts to address training deficiencies which often lead to high levels of staff turnover and increased operational costs. See this detailed Table of Contents for a look at the material covered.

This pilot curriculum was made possible by the contributions and dedication of these partner agencies: the Global Issues Resource Center, Cuyahoga Community College; Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution & Conflict Management; the Ohio Attorney General’s Child & Elder Protection Section; Mahoning County Juvenile Court; Medina County Juvenile Court; Lake County Juvenile Court; Ohio Judicial College, Supreme Court of Ohio; Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management; Warren County Juvenile Detention Center; Wood County Juvenile Detention Center; Ohio Juvenile Detention Director’s Association and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Corrections. Funding for the project was provided by Subgrant Number 2007-JG-C01-6580 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of the Justice Programs through the State of Ohio, Office of Criminal Justice Services.
