Restorative Justice Arts Initiative

Restorative Justice is a peaceful conflict resolution tool that has been implemented in many schools in central Michigan. The Central Michigan Restorative Justice Initiative asked the students they work with to create pieces of art that focus on Restorative Justice. This is a presentation of that artwork.

Emotional Intelligence: An Overview

Whether it’s in the boardroom or the classroom, individuals need the skills to communicate, work in teams, and let go of the personal and family issues that get in the way of working and learning. Such skills add up to what is known as emotional intelligence, and they are even more important as educators realize that these skills are critical to academic achievement. PeaceJam Juniors

This Video provides an overview of the PeaceJam Juniors Program and documents one school’s experience with this award-winning curriculum.

PeaceJam Juniors is a standards-based elementary curriculum that explores the childhood stories of 12 Nobel Peace Laureates and the ways they overcome problems in their communities. Students study the personal experiences of these amazing world leaders and then engage in service-learning activities that address local needs. As a result, children gain academic skills in the areas of reading, writing, history, civics, and geography. They also develop personal and social skills including problem-solving, conflict resolution, and leadership. PeaceJam Juniors can be implemented as stand alone curricular units or as a complement to existing curricula and aligns with best practices in the fields of service-learning, conflict resolution, and character education.

Truancy Mediation Program in Marion, Ohio

This video is a short documentary about the Truancy Prevention Through Mediation Program in place in Marion, Ohio. The Truancy Prevention Through Mediation Program brings students, parents, and school officials to the table with a mediator to deal with problems of truancy and find creative solutions without resorting to court action. The video was produced by The Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management.
